“iUFO Radio”  was giving some shine to the behind the scene people in the industry, starting off with Stacks aka @drepowersbrands a Creative Contractor. He explains his role as someone who works with a lot of talented people, mainly in advertising and marketing for large companies to appeal and portray the African American point of view. Venturing out into management now he is coming full circle as he originally got put on as an intern from managing a friend while he was in high school.

Director A.V. Rockwell came through too to discuss her short film project “Open City Mixtape”. Instead of taking a web series approach to releasing videos she chose to make a mixtape of videos portraying her vision in a short film. Being inspired by music as well it has a lot of influence in this project.  Having known The Dreams manager she was invited to shoot a documentary while he worked on 1977. Of course Puma had to get a little ratchet asking if dudes use business as a means to try and smash. There is a fine line you have to walk with your sexuality in a male dominated industry.

Doc Ice

“Booths and Rooftops” Romeo, Mocca, and DJ RoughHandz had a legend in the building last Friday. Chubb Rock, who has been in the game since 86 when he linked up with Doc Ice (who also called in to show love). “I want them to be able to have an old school one day” Chubb was speaking on how when he was coming up as an artist people stuck together, now everyone has beef and bickering which results in empty music that won’t stand the test of time because it’s not supported by its peers.

When Doc called up it was like the on air family reunion, Doc fully supported Chubb and thus became a mentor of sorts to him. As part of both Whodini and UTFO he is a legend. A pioneer of hip-hop, and when he seen a young man with talent he was more than willing to pass down what he knows so that that man may flourish.

You have to respect these men because they come from the era where respect was reciprocated.

You could learn a lot from just how they speak and move.

Just how they shaded the Grammys by making an album called “and the winner is..” with a cover where they are holding Grammys they are making themselves.. then the following year hip-hop had a category at the Grammys. These guys here MADE, not just paved, the path for today’s artists.

Wednesday on the “ManTality Show” we had the vet Steele of Smif-n-Wessun in the building with the fellas. You know anytime you have someone true to the game such as Steele around you are bound to have jewels dropped. They took a moment to talk about the controversy around the RickRoss/Reebok situation. Its a catch 22 to be a rapper these days.

“We become so professional when its convenient.. .. When we say that everything that comes out of our mouths is real, we have to take responsibility.” – Steele

Catch 22. Raps influence society ( as the industry has designed itself to do ) so when Rick Ross said that molly/rape line in his verse that is real life. That happens. To take offense to that line is completely understandable because its not a joke, in the world today women get drugged and raped. On the other side of the spectrum MOST of hiphop is filled with negative ideas, values but isn’t until words jeopardize a brand that people want to say to advocated and glorify those things is not acceptable. Reebok was supporting apartheid a few years ago so how can they judge a creative minds expression.

They went on to put on blast how some of the greats never link up. Speaking on JayZ and his Open Letter lyric controversy, Common remixed that, why couldn’t they come together and do that from jump?

Then they switched it up and exposed their love lives.. to be in love in the industry is a tough thing. D.W.I. had his lady in studio, it took almost 15 years for them to even get to that step.

Wednesday DSN was out making a scene as they hosted a Meet and Greet at the classic Moodies Records in the Bronx for Styles P new album “Float”. With 420Screenshot_2013-04-21-19-36-13 around the corner, or having just passed you can catch the vibe of what the album is about. Your girls Hustle&Flow of “The Vantage Point” were in the building repping their DSN. Hustle  snagged a quick interview with Styles with a cameo from Steele who had been on “The Mantality Show”. And our international country hoppers DaMatrixStudios owner,  D.W.I., and half of the TO2NY, K Boogie, were in the building. K Boogie blessed the room with a set on the tables. DSN just wanted to show love to someone who has been in the game and stayed consistent for years, and will do the same for more to come. Styles has a smooth slick flow with intricate rhymes with a lot of history behind him so he alwasy delivers a solid body of work. With “Float” in stores now he is gearing up fro some shows and guest appearances around the country. One being the first national cannabis bowl in denver, coloroda in a few weeks.

A bunch of people came out to get a copy of Styles new album and he showed love to each and every one of them taking pictures and signing the covers.  DSN is always in support of some real Hip-Hop so it was a pleasure to be able to put on such an event to connect an artist with his fans.

Monday night on “N.Ex.T.U.P. Radio” DaMatrixStudios Artist of the Week Jamil Hostile came through to expose just why he is a New ExtraOrScreenshot_2013-04-21-19-04-53dindary Talented Urban Person on the rise. Sitting with Mocha Marie and JJ after getting the question “Do you have a razor blade on you?” Word JJ a razor blade? Apparently growing up in the Bronx you needed that to get by in the 90s. Wu Tang and Killer Army being some of his influences it made him a well-rounded artist because their styles and lifestyle lead him to seek knowledge. He knows there is more to rap than the glitz and glam. He learned from the era where Hip-Hop was all about expression and there was a lane for every message, so he kept it lit with his opinion on the state of hip-hop today. Calling out the fact that 90% of every rapper is the same, they all want to be Drake. (No Shade) He made sure to  separate himself by giving a project with a range of styles with a og feel of what hiphop use to be. Dropping of tracks “Return of the Sandman Killuh” with a very jazzy sample, and a slick flow he deff deserved his slot as a guest on this show. Catch a clip.

 

Chase Baker born and raised in BedStuy Brooklyn made a reappearance by the studio Monday night too. Having started off playing basketball overseas for Australia for 8 seasons where he started making music. Excited about the journey he is on having signed a nice deal with Universal/IMG he is steady on the grind and looking forward to more work and success. Get into the rest of his interview.

“Dogs and Diamonds” is the latest addition to HUMP DAY at DaMatrixStudios..

They had Marketing genius Amelia on the set. Amelia, who was General Manager of Rough Riders/ President of Rough Rider Lifestyle. Having started at Atlantic records (where her mentor hooked her into the game basically giving her his spot. ) She has learned so much that she is now giving it back. “Pay attention to what people want to teach you”. Soaking up everything she was taught lead up to her opening her own Marketing and Consulting firm that is thriving right now. She dropped some jewels throughout her interview, best advice she gave away was “GET KNOWN”. For all indie artists that is what matters being present, relevant, and building connections.lies of blue

Author of “Lies of Blue” Lynne Forde called in to the show as well to discuss her book and what she hopes people take from it. With a lot of twists and turns it’s a book sure to keep the pages turning. But you can get into the interview and pick up a copy to get familiar.

Raine sat and talked with E Beasly one of the co-owners of URL battle league. E Beasly gave the break down of how they went from Smack DVDs to todays URL battle league with the rise of blogs and social medias. People started blogging and throwing videos up on youtube and talking about the exclusive information making it no longer exclusive and this effecting the sales of DVDs. All they could control was the battles so they brought the battles indoor and started marketing as a platform for battle rappers to come get down.  Going on to speak on Queen of the Ring and possible URL vs QotR battles in the future.

Raine also had Dellishous in the building to break down the Chayna vs Ms. Fit battle..

We are always welcoming new family to the DaMatrixStudios this time around it comes in the form of two female host on “Sip n Scratch” with a male Dj, a little drink, good music, reckless talk, and guests they hold down Wednesdays 8-10pm after “The Vantage Point” and before “Battle Talk Radio”.

“Sip and Scratch” hosts DJ C Devone and S.o.S. are two accomplished women with a love of both music and liquor. With sippy cups in studio they come with their drink of the week and a lot of rough&reckless fun. Just last week they had singer Natalie Imani come through for a little sippage and new music from her mixtape “Passion mark”. A jersey native she both sings and writes lyrics, with an edgy style and look to accompany her pleasant voice she was a great guest for the show. The ladies sipped through their interview covering her career and shedding a little spotlight on a songwriter she is working with who was in studio. “Water Cooler Talk” had Model/Hostess Dazia Moore on air to talk Revenge. Revenge on a lover, revenge on an ex, someone who did youddm wrong.  With hosts Tigga,Sparks and Mike Nezzy in the building the topic got interesting from physical acts of revenge to mental acts of revenge.  The topic of women making more than men came up as well. Its safe to say Tigga wont be messing with not girls from the south, apparently THEY ALL CRAZY!  

Puma of Vh1 Black Ink joined the panel as they got into this topic, but he shared a quick revenge story. He goes for the juggler.  While Daiza said she thinks a man would find it hard to be with her if he made less than you, Puma first hand was in a relationship with a woman who made more than him and they never had an issue during their time together. She admired his ambition, while Daiza feels a man would feel insecure by not being “the man”. Get into that.

“HATE MONEY RADIO” had the hate at an all time high with Triboro and Vh1 Love and HipHops Lore’l in the studio. With the phones bloScreenshot_2013-03-04-14-35-42wing up for the fellas and Lore’l getting to speak about her music instead of the bs I know haters were mad.

 

Triboro got Bk, Harlem, Queens on lock. In the studio with two Bronx heavy hitters, they got all of NYC live Monday night. Having been racking up some awards and hitting the west coast these fellas are on a steady grind. With some exclusive things in the works with some big names they had to slide back through to play catch up.

 

Who knew Lore’l had been in the rap game for ten years!? So this is not her trying to take her spot on a reality show and flip it into an entertainment career. Setting herself apart from the female rappers popular on the scene right now Lore’l speaks for herself and no one else. If she wants to rap about getting head and hoodrat activities she don’t care how an one else feels about it.
